Shanti Sumartojo, together with various co-researchers and collaborators, has been investigating the creation of ‘atmospheres’ in a range of locations and as a result of a diversity of artists and architectural practices, including intervention through street art in a Melbourne laneway (with Fiona Hillary); the debates around the Fourth Plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square; collaboration on an action research project to examine mobility at urban crossing sites (with Fiona Hillary); the use of light and darkness in Australia’s ANZAC Day commemorative ceremonies; and understandings of memorial atmospheres in the aftermath of war (with Quentin Stevens).
